Common Types of Cars

The automobile industry has given us several options to choose from when it comes to automobile shopping. They all come in different shapes, sizes, and colors, but what makes an SUV different from a hatchback? Or a sedan different from a truck? We are going to deconstruct this in no time. Here are some examples of types of the most popular cars in the market.

SUV (Sport Utility Vehicles)

As the name suggests, the car is designed with sporty abilities that can be utilized on off-road trips. The SUVs come in different sizes i.e., small, medium, and large. They usually have four-wheel drive capabilities and appear to be raised from the ground.

Pick-Up Trucks

These are cars that have an open cargo area that can be enclosed or open. Pick-up trucks are usually used for carrying goods. They come in different sizes and models. They are popular amongst farmers who need to transport their products to the market.

Sedan

Also known as a saloon car, this a car designed with a three-box configuration, that is, engine space, passenger space, and cargo space. The types of sedans include; notchback sedan, coupled sedan, club sedan, and convertible sedan.

Station Wagon

This is an elongated car that contains a large carrying area behind the rear seats. The vehicle is ordinarily popular among families with children and who like to travel. The other characteristic of the car is it has a rear door at the back for easy loading.

Two-Door Coupes


Ideally, these are sports cars that have two doors as entry points to the vehicles. They have spacious front seats and tiny rear seats. They usually are popular among bachelors and couples that don’t have kids.

Mini-Vans

These types of vans are cars that have been configured to carry two to three extra people in the rear seating row. The seats are generally configurable and can be adjusted to fold back in. They are generally big vehicles as compared to a sedan.

Hatchback

These are vehicles that have rear doors that open backward. The doors are customarily slumped, and the passenger and cargo areas are bundled into one. A good example is the Subaru Hatchback. They are generally small cars that can accommodate up to five people.

Vans

These are big vehicles that transport cargo and can accommodate passengers that exceed seven. They come with or without windows according to the purpose one is looking to use them for, be it for cargo or passenger transportation.
