Intersport Racing Fast In Practice, Records Solid Results in Petit Le Mans
photo by John Thawley Braselton, Ga. – At the end of another grueling American Le Mans Series race, Intersport Racing was classified with fifth and sixth place results in the 1000-mile Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. The Dublin, Ohio-based team showed moments of brilliance with its two LMP1 class Lola prototypes, despite facing stiff competition from Europe entrants.
Team owner, and former Le Mans class champion Clint Field, once again teamed with father, Jon, and Richard Berry in the No. 37 Lola B06/10 AER. The trio, who were fresh off class victory in the last round at Detroit, put in a promising performance all weekend, qualifying the Very Berry Exotics machine in the top-10 overall. The trio wound up classified sixth in the category after a hard days worth of racing.
Intersport's sister No. 30 car also had its fare share of dramas, but Ryan Lewis, Luke Hines and George Forgeois all shared the wheel of the team's new Judd-powered prototype. Lewis made an impressive recovery after stopping on-track in the first lap with electrical gremlins. The former Atlantic star stayed calm and got the Kumho-shod machine back to the pits for repairs. From there, Hines, making his prototype debut, turned impressive lap times, and Forgeois steered the car into the sunset. The trio was classified in the fifth position by the end of the race.
"We had an encouraging weekend with some good runs in practice," Clint explained. "We would have liked to finish a little higher as we knew both cars had the speed, but that's how it goes sometimes. It's great to see more competition in the P1 class for a change, and we're looking forward to facing them again at Laguna Seca in a few weeks."
