FIELD, INTERSPORT READY FOR RETURN HOME
Photo by John ThawleyColumbus-area resident Clint Field and his Ohio-based Intersport Racing team will look to excite their home crowd with a return trip to victory lane at the American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio on May 19-21, airing on CBS Sports.
One of Ohio's brightest young racing stars, Field has driven into the racing record books as the youngest prototype champion in American Le Mans Series and IMSA history (2005) and the youngest (age 20) class winner at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans (2004). He'll look to add to his record 14 LMP2 class victories when the series returns to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course later this month.
Born in Marion, Ohio, Field currently resides in nearby Dublin, which is just 63 miles from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. He and his Columbus-based Intersport team consider Mid-Ohio their home course and won there in 2004. The team also is fresh off a class win at the Lone Star Grand Prix last week in Houston.
"It's going to be really nice to have all of our friends and family at the track," said Field. "We always run strong at Mid-Ohio and we look forward to having another good race here this year."
In addition to Field, Intersport Racing features another rising star in driver Liz Halliday. Her recent second-place overall finish with Field at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring was the highest finish ever by a female in the 54-year history of the prestigious South Florida sports car classic. Over the past year, the Californian has won more circuit races (five) than any other female driver except Milka Duno, who also has five wins.
"We want to build on the momentum we generated at Sebring and Houston, and Mid-Ohio would be a great place to do it given how special it is to our team," said Halliday. "We know we'll have a lot of people rooting for us, and we'll hopefully respond with our best effort of the season thus far."
At Sebring, Halliday and Field led Intersport Racing to an upset win in the LMP2 class over the heavily favored Penske Racing Porsche RS Spyders. The pair returns to Mid-Ohio in Intersport's AER-powered Lola B05/40 with high expectations of themselves and the completely resurfaced Mid-Ohio track.
"It will be nice to have the increased grip that comes with a new racing surface," Field said. "I'm hoping it will suit our car and am really looking forward to seeing and driving it."
The American Le Mans at Mid-Ohio is set for noon EDT on Sunday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. It will be broadcast on CBS Sports at 1 p.m. EDT May 21, the second of five straight races on the network. Qualifying is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. EDT on May 20. American Le Mans Radio and IMSA Live Timing & Scoring will be available at www.americanlemans.com.
